HOORAY!
BYRON SOWELL vs. JOSH CHILDERESS
Byron looked better then ever. He came out with strong striking but suprised us all (including his opponent) when he landed takes downs in both rounds (Byron is know for his stand up Muay Thai skills). In the second round Byron ended up on his back with Josh standing above him. Byron reveresed the position, standing up and putting Josh on his back. From there Byron finished with strikes getting a T.K.O. victory!
NATHAN GATES vs. DOMINIC MONTOYA
Nate got the upper hand in the first exchange of blows. Closing in Dominic secured the clinch and recovered. Dominic grabed one of Nate's kicks and got a sweeping takedown. Nate fought of his back and from there (in true Nate fashion) both opponents reversed and changed position sevreal times. In the second round they clinched again. This time Nate got behind Dominic, climbed up onto his back and secured a rear naked choke. Dominic, standing with Nate wrapped on his back, passed out and fell back wards. Nate held tight and the ref. stopped the fight!

A GOOD NIGHT
Saturday 03-28-2009
Matt Vigil and Bryant fought in the King of Champions (K.O.C.) MMA card. Matt fought Joey Banks for the 145 lb Amateur Title and Bryant Craven fought Rocky Johnson for the 155 lb Pro Title.
Matt vs. Joey was a very important fight for the school. Joey was a former AMA student who switched (after irreconcilable differences) to T’s K.O. gym. Joey has awesome striking power and is very quick on the ground. Matt took some good shots in the beginning but, in true Matt fashion, was always able to score the take down and end up in top positions. Matt won, ironically, by T.K.O. in the third round. The fight was great and was a contender for “fight of the night”. In the post fight interview he called his girl friend Alma into the cage, got on one knee, and proposed to her. Congratulations to both of them and Matt, we are SO proud of you!
Bryant fought a very tough opponent in Rocky Johnson. The fight was back and forth with action and skill displayed that was UFC quality. A high light was a spinning back fist connecting to Rocky and a reply spinning back fist that connected on Bryant. It ended in a split decision win for Rocky Johnson. Bryant had a spectacular performance and showed the heart of a lion (he also stole “fight of the night” from Matt). Well done!
A HERO 03-26-2009
AMA Studen David Peterson was on spring break in Galveston Texas. He was walking on the beach when an unchained pit bull attacked a jogger. David ran to the screaming woman and knocked the dog back. It's owner got control of the animal and David used his shirt to to dress the lady's wounds until an ambulance and police arrived. One never knows when and where something like that is going to happen and, when it does, how one is going to respond to it. David acted as a hero.

FANTASTIC
For those that know him Sonny Padilla is an awesome guy and a big part of the AMA family. Unfortunately he had been diagnosed with cancer and went in for surgery earlier this month. He is doing fine now (although in some pain) and his operation appears to be a success! Speedy recovery friend, our hearts are with you.
APOLOGIES
These accomplishments should have been posted. Theresa Whilden earned her Orange Belt on 3.16.09 and Bret Thomas got his Yellow belt last week (3.11.09).
ALRIGHT!
Byron Sowell got voted 3rd most exciting fight on the last kick down and that is very well deserved.
GRAPPLING
This last Saturday Thom Carabajal, Andrew Shannon, Trevor Beack, Nathan Gates, Joel Harris and Roxy Vendena entered the 2009 International Pancrease submission grappling and old tymers wrestling tournament. With the exception of a fluke injury all the competitors won their first round. In their grappling divisions Thomas took 3rd place and Andrew took 4th place. In the wrestling division Roxy took 3rd. I'm proud of every one that competed, well done.

COMING UP 03-14-09 Wes Tirone is doing a talk and demonstration of the products offered by Isagenix. They have a great weight loss sytem, 'more engery' program and products for boosting exercise and athletic performance.
Dojo News: Week of Mar. 2nd 2009
COMING UP Saturday 3-15-2009 The yearly Pancrase National grappling tournament is almost here. It's a chance to get ex poser competing in front of large crowds, try your stuff against people you've never meet before and maybe even bring home the Gold! Let Scott know if you are interested.
Friday 3-6-2009 Byron Sowell faced Ben Bradley. Round one was back and forth action with most of the action taking place on the ground. Round two had Sowell getting the takedown and working from the top as Bradley worked submission attempts from the bottom. Round three was mainly standing striking with each fighter landing well. The judge's decision was an unanimous one, and it was Sowell that got the win. Awesome Byron!
Wednesday 3-4-2009 Jason Adams and Natalie earned their Yellow belt rank in Kenpo. Grats guys. (:))
